A DREAM DEFERRED

A Dream Deferred will address the practice of redlining and its effects to a wider scope of people who may not be aware of how it has affected and continues to affect our economy, community and urban development. The multifaceted project will encompass a two-month art exhibit centered in Philadelphia. Complementing the exhibit is a 4-part series panel discussion titled “A Series of Uncomfortable Conversations: Breaking the Myth of Meritocracy”. LGC secured the venue, recruited the panelists, and planned the event from its initial stages to day-of, ensuring a smooth run of show.

THE INSTITUTE OF HIP HOP ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Craft your hustle, empower your dreams.

LGC conceived, developed and executed a groundbreaking program for young and aspiring entrepreneurs called The Institute of Hip Hop Entrepreneurship (IHHE), a 2016 Knight Cities Challenge catalyst grant winner. The institute uses the ethos of hip hop’s greatest impresarios as a guide to develop and bring to life an innovative and nontraditional curriculum that will be taught as a nine-month, tuition-free program for Philadelphians between the ages of 18 and 32.

The program aims to level the playing field for ambitious, nontraditional youth who, due to a variety of barriers, are too often denied access to the knowledge, resources and networks necessary to take entrepreneurial ideas from concept to reality.

WOMEN LED CITIES

“We cannot be what we cannot see”

Women Led Cities engages diverse women from a cross-section of industries and fields including urban planning, design, community development, architecture, innovation, education, and more through a series of collaborative, working conferences.
These conferences aim to:
  • Expand the conversation through thought leadership and objectives-driven discourse.
  • Develop a program of working conferences and event programming that can be implemented in any city to support women-led leadership, policies, and inclusion.
  • Build the economic power of women through an expanding network, collaboration, and collective access to resources and opportunities.
  • Provide a platform for women working worldwide to make our cities better for all people.
Two conferences in 2018 have been convened, with an two more slated for 2019. By bringing women’s voices to the forefront of the discussion, Women Led Cities strives to achieve a greater level of equity in urban planning and design – both bottom-up and top-down – and start conversations about developing equitable policies for all people in cities.

URBAN SHARE JUNKETS

www.urbansharejunkets.com

Urban Share Junkets (USJ) is a series of curated and guided “field” trips for urban planning and development professionals from across the board. Piloted in April 2018, USJ connected Chicago and Philadelphia, both of which have experienced parallels in socioeconomic trends, as they relate to rapid development and economic growth to accommodate new residents. Sites were curates for each trip providing an in-depth, insider’s tour of neighborhoods and projects that shed light on creative placemaking and equitable development practices.
The goal? Break down silos across sectors — between developers, urban planning, and community development — so practitioners can deeply engage in what communities are doing to create more equitable and innovative cities of tomorrow.

Check out recaps of curated tours in Philadelphia and Chicago to learn more.

Applications for the next Urban Share Junkets in Philadelphia and Cleveland will be open in late February. Send us a message at hello@urbansharejunkets.com to get on the list!
