HISTORIC + MODERN DAY REDLINING COMMUNITY PANEL EVENT
Historic policies enacted under the New Deal and Urban Renewal Program, and continued racist landownership practices will be unpacked to examine the multiplicity and continuity of systemic racist policy from the past to today.
The panel will be comprised of four multidisciplinary luminaries with varying perspectives to provide a well-rounded inclusive discussion. Panelists will sift through landmark racist policies that contributed to the disenfranchisement of mass groups of people.
Alia Fierro, MRP from the National Fair Housing Alliance will moderate and encourage panelists to dive deep and engage in authentic discourse.
PANELISTS INCLUDE:
• Emmanuel Martinez, Data Reporter from Reveal, The Center for Investigative Journalism
• Rachelle Faroul, Associate Community Manager at Vox Media and featured in the Reveal article about modern-day redlining
• Richard Rothstein, Author of Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How our Government Segregated America
• Senator Vincent J. Hughes, Pennsylvania State Senator
There will be a reception with refreshments and live music following the discussion.
